Stone by stone...

Rebuild Monterosso and the skilled artists at Fabbrica D'Arte in Monterosso got to work today hand inscribing the stones purchased for the wall to rebuild Monterosso.

Through the incredibly generous donations of so many people from around the world, it took several hours for the stones to be carved with messages of hope, love and support from people who have been touched by this area, and who have donated their hard earned money toward helping us rebuild.

Incredible progress has been made in Monterosso, as you have seen from the photos we have posted here, and now that same progress can be made with the wall.  The stones were first hand crafted to the sizes ordered, then each message carved into the individual piece before being fired in the kiln.  If you don't see your stone, don't worry!  It's a long process that takes days, and this is just the first little batch.

This is the beginning stage of the process needed to create each stone, but as you can see, the effect is that of a real stone wall - those that lace the hills around the town and throughout the Cinque Terre.

The beauty of this project, aside from it's aesthetic appeal, is that stones can be continually added to the wall.  It's not too late to buy one for yourself or a loved one - for more information, check out the DONATE section of our site - and for those of you who have already bought a stone, thank you again.  Your messages are inspiring, and the wall is truly one of support - in many, many ways.
